I Love Where I Am in Life

Try being happy about wherever you are — even if it doesn’t make sense to be happy.

Years ago, when I was homeless, I made a decision that my being homeless was going to be great. I didn’t know how that greatness would reveal itself, nor was it my ‘job’ to figure it out. But it was my job to let it reveal itself to me. There is a big difference between the two.

The former has an emphasis on effort. The latter has an emphasis on allowing. Can you feel the difference between efforting and allowing?

Once I made the decision to love where I was, the resentment, the anger, the resistance and the guilt began to fade away. And with the lessened resistance, I began to see my own inner light. Years later, I began to leverage my experience of homelessness as I mentored and coached individuals.

I am grateful for my understanding of homelessness, and I never let where I am in my life take too much attention. Instead, the focus is always on where I am going. I can confidently say that I love where I am in my life.

Once you love where you are, you move forward with more grace and confidence.
